Updated! As Text Message writes; They've been up there for a week! To draw attention to the continuing roof top occupation of 87 Ashley Road there will be daily demonstrations outside from 4pm-6pm. All welcome. Spread the word. Past updates: Ashley Rd Thursday midday report (Day 2), Friday (Day 3): WE ARE STILL HERE and Saturday (Day 4)

At 10am on the 12th November police and bailiffs attempted to evict the squatters at 87 Ashley Rd, but several residents resisted eviction by occuping the roof. The authorities then smashed up the property to make it uninhabitable. Squatter writes; [those on the roof] seem to be in good spirits, have plenty of people giving them support on the ground . we have our own mobile incident support unit on the scene. no police at the moment, but security with a couple of dogs inside the house. be good if people could be their as early as they can tomorrow morning. New research on traffic from UWE and Gloucester Road Goes Plastic Bag Free

Joshua Hart writes; People living on streets with heavy motor vehicle traffic are experiencing a considerable deterioration of their local social lives according to Joshua Hart, a researcher from the University of the West of England. Results suggest that residents on busy streets have less than one quarter the number of local friends compared to those living on similar streets with little traffic. Full article. Saturday 13th of September, between 10am and 5pm, St. Werburghs Centre

Davey Gower of the Bookfair Collective writes; Roll up! Roll up! Blast away those damp summer blues and get yourself down to the Bristol Anarchist Bookfair for a date with the freethinking autonomous resistance from Bristol, the South West & South Wales. A printed bookfair programme will be available on the day, but you can get all the bookfair details online now...This free event includes 26 stalls from independent publishers, distributors, bookshops and local and national campaign groups. There are also 25 workshops including talks on anarchist principles and tactics, the economy, climate change and transition towns, a bicycle maintenance workshop, a lesson in Taiji, and an 'alternative' cycling tour of Bristol. Added to that is live acoustic music in the courtyard and the Kebele community co-operative – Bristol’s long-running radical social centre – will be in the kitchen providing a cheap all-day café, proving how delicious vegan food can be....Anarchism is about mutual aid, solidarity, autonomy and social change. It’s about class politics, resisting injustice and exploitation and defending the earth we live on. Anarchism emerged as a defined movement in the mid-19th century as part of the struggles of the growing European working class. Yet its origins can be traced back centuries to whenever people came together to resist oppression, to whenever people tried to live peacefully in harmony with the environment around them. Anarchist Bookfair - full programme & info.

Bristol Indymedia will also be at the event! We are running a stall and a talk/discussion; Getting serious about media democracy at Room 7 at 11am; The media is dominated by a small group of individuals like Murdoch, and multinational corporations such as Viacom. As a result the predominant tide of media offers a largely homogenous top-down view of the world centred on corporate globalisation and neo-liberal economics. What are the implications for those struggling to present alternative views of the world? How can alternatives be presented to a population that has only known a corporate media? Can we use their media to get our message out or should we concentrate on building our own media? Hope to see you there!

Some picks from the Bristol Indymedia website....

nickleberry writes about Free Tibet on College Green; A Mock Olympics was held today on College Green. The aim of the event was to remind people, amidst the hype of the Beijing olympics, of the Chinese government's sordid record when it comes to relations with Tibet, and with its own population.... While camper talks about the recent Climate Camp; For me, whether the camp was a success can only be judged whether we see in the next 12 months an increase in direct action on climate change and social justice in our local area... In related news Emma asks Global Warming - What action can we take?
