Illustrated talk by Haitian artist, Patrick Boucard

Haitian artist, Patrick Boucard, is coming to the Pierian Centre on Wednesday 3rd February to talk about the situation in his country.

Patrick Boucard is from the beautiful coastal town of Jacmel, provisionally accorded World Heritage status. He studied art in the UK, and went on to found the Centre d'Art de Jacmel, a foundation that encourages Haitian artists and hosts an annual Film Festival. Two weeks ago Patrick’s Art Centre was devastated in the Haitian earthquake, and its manager trapped for a week in the rubble.

Patrick will be talking about the situation in Haiti now – and about the problems that haunted his homeland long before the earthquake struck. The evening is not primarily a fundraiser (although there will be a chance to donate) – it is first and foremost an evening for people to hear about the island, and to question a Haitian who is a great speaker and a fascinating man. Indeed you may well have seen interviews with Patrick on BBC and HTV! The purpose of the evening is to raise awareness and encourage people to do something for the long-term after the world’s attention has moved on to the next headline-grabbing crisis.

Patrick’s talk and presentation is free – a unique opportunity to hear about Haiti at first hand. It takes place at 7.30pm on Wednesday 3rd February at the Pierian Centre, 27 Portland Square, St Pauls, Bristol BS2 8SA.
