Shelter - where squatting used to be taboo

Shelter Film Screening and Discussion Evening at the Watershed. Part of Shelter’s 'Now is the Time' campaign. The event will take place at the Watershed Media Centre, with food and refreshments being served from 6pm. This couldn't possibly be an invite only event?

At 6.30pm there will be a special screening of the short film Trapped starring Patsy Palmer, which is a modern twist on the seminal Cathy Come Home. It follows the progress and turmoil of one family trapped in bad housing conditions, revealing some shocking truths about life today in overcrowded and temporary housing.

We will also be showcasing Shelter’s innovative advice and support services in Bristol, which prevent homelessness and provide support to families and children experiencing bad housing and homelessness.

This event is supported by a range of well known Bristol based speakers and panellists from the housing, business and political arena, including: George Ferguson, Chairman of Acanthus Ferguson Mann Architects; Councillor Judith Price, Executive Member for Homes and Streetscene; John Savage CBE, Executive Chairman of Business West; Sue Kelly, Service Manager Shelter Bristol Homeless to Home and; a representative from the Housing Team at Government Office for the South West.

There will be an opportunity to discuss the issues raised by the film and by Shelter’s team of service providers, and a chance for everyone to put their questions about housing and homelessness to the expert panel. The event will conclude at 8.30pm.

Spaces are limited so please call me as early as possible to secure your place by contacting Sarah Marks, sarah_marks@shelter.org.uk or on 0844 515 1430.

Kind regards,

Jackie Beech
South West Regional Manager
